The festival of Holi marks the end of the winter season and the onset of the summer season.

Holi is the festival of colours. It is celebrated in most parts of the country with unparalleled fervour. Traditionally, in olden times, sandalwood paste was used along with coloured water made from grated beetroot or flowers like red hibiscus. Then came GULAAL or the dry coloured powder. Gulaal is colourful and easy to wash away. But it has a drying effect on the skin as well as hair. Today, the supermarkets are flooded with chemical-based synthetic colours which have a catastrophic effect on our bodies and the environment as well. Available as powders, sprays, liquids, and packs these colours are generally not easily biodegradable.

The Healing Earth recognizes the fact that through the use of these extremely harmful and toxic synthetic colours cannot be eliminated in the near future, We on our end adopt measures so that their harmful effects can be contained.

The little steps in the direction of a safe and colourful Holi-

  • Use sandalwood paste for Tikka while wishing Holi.
  • Make your own coloured water using grated beetroot, flowers of red Hibiscus, dried Rose petals, blue Hibiscus etc.
  • Use the organic Holi colours that are available in the market.
  • We can play Holi with colourful flowers instead of Gulaal and other colours. Traditionally, Lord Krishna played Holi with flowers.
  • Avoid the use of plastic water balloons. Apart from being difficult to recycle, they are fatal in case ingested by birds and other animals.
  • Synthetic colours are toxic and they pollute the groundwater as well. There is an urgent need to educate people especially children about their hazardous nature.

Along with doing our bit to make Holi more environment-friendly, we can adopt small steps to take care of our hair and skin while celebrating Holi.

  • Apply The Healing Earth oils on the scalp and on the exposed parts of the body. This will not only act as a protective shield, but it will also help in washing off the colours easily.
  • If possible, wear full sleeved clothes. Clothes act as a shield that protects the skin from exposure to colours. The more skin is exposed, more are the chances of colour being applied.
  • Tie the hair and if possible wear a cap or scarf to cover the scalp.
  • Wash hair with plenty of running water. Use of hot or warm water should be avoided and water at normal temperature should be used. Hot water has an extremely drying effect on the skin and hair.
  • Gentle exfoliation helps in removing the colour. The Healing Earth scrub gently exfoliates while moisturizing the skin.
  • Use The Healing Earth fullers earth face mask or The Healing Earth dead sea mask to deep condition the skin after the bath. They will leave the facial skin hydrated while giving it a gentle glow.

The Healing Earth Family wishes everyone a very happy and colourful Holi. We welcome you to our little community with the common mission of Responsible Beauty.
